• Nervous system dysregulation
• Chronic stress & burnout
• Relationship challenges
• Low mood & self-criticism

•  Grief and Loss

My Approach

My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based care. I draw on EMDR therapy to address trauma and PTSD, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to support anxiety and low mood, Internal Family Systems (IFS) to work compassionately with protective patterns, and nervous system regulation strategies within a trauma-informed psychotherapy framework to foster lasting healing and resilience.

Therapy is not about 'fixing' you. It’s about helping you understand your patterns, regulate overwhelming emotions, and create meaningful change at a pace that feels safe.

You don’t have to manage anxiety, low mood, relationship issues, grief or trauma alone.

About Susan Newton-Poulter

Registered Psychotherapist | Burlington, Ontario

Beginning therapy can feel vulnerable. Many people arrive feeling overwhelmed, self-critical, or unsure where to start. If that’s you, please know that you don’t need to have it all figured out before reaching out.

I am a Registered Psychotherapist providing anxiety, trauma, and depression therapy in Burlington and Oakville, as well as secure online therapy across Ontario. I work with adults who often appear capable and responsible in their lives, yet internally feel anxious, exhausted, disconnected, or weighed down by past experiences.

My approach is warm, steady, and collaborative. I believe meaningful change happens in a space where you feel genuinely heard and understood. Therapy is not about judgment or quick fixes. It is about slowing down enough to understand what is happening beneath the surface and gently working toward change.

Areas Commonly Supported

• Persistent anxiety or panic
• Emotional overwhelm or burnout
• Unresolved trauma or attachment wounds
• Self-criticism and shame
• Low mood or loss of motivation

•  Grief due to the loss of a loved one or loss of employment

I integrate evidence-based approaches, including EMDR, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and nervous system regulation strategies. While these tools guide our work, the foundation of therapy is the relationship we build together — one grounded in trust, respect, and emotional safety.

I have always been drawn to understanding how people make sense of their experiences and how early patterns shape the way we relate to ourselves and others. That curiosity, combined with ongoing professional learning, informs the thoughtful and grounded presence I bring into each session.

I believe that symptoms often make sense when we understand the story behind them. Together, we explore your patterns with curiosity and compassion, helping you move toward greater clarity, resilience, and self-trust.

Therapy with me is steady and reflective. We move at a pace that feels manageable, creating space for both insight and practical change.

If you are looking for a therapist in Burlington, Oakville, or online across Ontario, I invite you to book a free 15-minute consultation. We can talk about what’s bringing you here and whether working together feels like the right fit.
